Frequently Asked Questions

How do you install this program?

Click here to download the latest version. This will save a file called 'mybill.msi' on your hard disk. Double-click on this file to run it, and follow the instructions to install the product (click Next button each time you are requested). You only need to install the product once, or whenever you are upgrading the product from our website. To start the program, you can click its shortcut icon on the Start menu: "Start > All Programs > Malta Utility Bill Calculator".

What is a Maintenance Agreement?

When you purchase a license for the Malta Utility Bill Calculator, you can use the software indefinitely, and the software never expires. You will also be entitled to minor version upgrades of the software (e.g. from version 3.0 to version 3.1). These will include bug fixes and other minor updates.

When the utility bills are revised by the government however, a new major version of the Malta Utility Bill Calculator is released. New major versions of the software beyond the first year are free if your license key is covered by a Maintenance Agreement. During the first year, starting from the day on which you activate your license key, you can download and install new versions of the software free of charge and using the same license key. Beyond the first year, however, you will need Maintenance Agreement coverage. This avoids you having to purchase a new license for the software. The price of a Maintenance Agreement is typically half the price of a new purchase, and covers your license for an additional year of new versions.

Purchasing an additional Maintenance Agreement can be done online very easily. For more information, please visit the Upgrade page.

Why does the Malta Utility Bill Calculator™ differ from the official bill by a few cents?

Because there might still be slight differences between the way we calculate the bill and the way Water Services Corporation calculates the bill. We have taken every care to make sure the calculation is as close as possible, and the calculations are based on published figures by Water Services Corporation and Enemalta Corporation, but we cannot make any guarantees.

The totals match, however the water and electricity consumption figures are different. Why?

It is probable that your bill spans different periods, each of which uses different Fuel Surcharge rates, and different methods of calculation (old rates and new rates). The official bill only splits the bill into two sections: old rates (before 1 Oct 2008) and new rates (after 1 Oct 2008). However, before 1 Oct 2008, different Fuel Surcharge rates might apply if the period spans before 1 July 2008. The official bill breaks down the Fuel Surcharge amount using the different rates. On the other hand, the Malta Utility Bill Calculator shows separate calculation for each distinct period.

My figures are split into multiple blocks. Why is that?

Since the rates change from time to time, each period is calculated separately. For example, before 1 Oct 2008, the Fuel Surcharge changed every few months. The new rates were also updated as from 1 Apr 2009. To aid you better with understanding your bill, therefore, each period is calculated independently. A grand total for your bill is shown at the bottom.

Where can I find the list of past Fuel Surcharge Rates?

Click on Past Surcharge Rates above.

The water bill for the new rates does not agree with the bill. Why?

Make sure you subtract the government subsidy from the amount. The new bills from Water Services Corporation do not show the government subsidy on a separate line for water use since 1 Oct 2008, but deduct it immediately. If you have a 'Government Subsidy' line on your bill this is for water consumption up till 1 Oct 2008 only.
