Your Maintenance Agreement
Each purchase of the Malta Utility Bill Calculator™ is covered by a free, one year maintenance agreement, irrespective of the edition bought.
The maintenance agreement starts counting from the day and time you first activate your licensed copy. To check the expiry date of your maintenance agreement,
start the Malta Utility Bill Calculator™ program, and click on the "About" tab. You will see the expiry date in day/month/year format under "Licensing Information".
But what does a maintenance agreement consist of? The maintenance agreement is similar to an "insurance" policy, which ensures that when the utility rates are
revised by Water Services/Enemalta, you will be entitled for an upgrade of the Malta Utility Bill Calculator™. We will inform you by email when a new upgrade is
available so you can download it and re-activate your copy. If your maintenance agreement is expired, then it will not be possible for you to activate the new,
updated software. Then, if you would like to upgrade your software, you will be given the opportunity to purchase a maintenance agreement for another year.
However, keep in mind that a maintenance agreement will always expire on the anniversary of the first activation. So for instance, if you first activated
on 1 June 2009, the agreement will expire on 1 June 2010. If you decide to extend the agreement on 1 August 2010 (after it has expired), your new agreement
will expire on 1 June 2011, and not 1 August 2011.
Major and minor upgrades: It is important to distinuish between major and minor upgrades. A major upgrade occurs when the utility rates are changed.
A minor upgrade is when we introduce some new, minor features in the software not related to the tariffs, or when we fix bugs. Maintenance agreements are
only related to major changes. You do not need a maintenance agreement to upgrade your product with a minor change.
To help you out distinguish between major and minor updates, check out the version number. At the moment, the program is in version 2.1.6. Each time we
update the program we update the version number. Minor updates only change the second and third number (e.g. 2.1.7 or 2.2.0). Major updates change the first
number (e.g. 3.0.0).
